Administrative Assistant (Los Angeles)

The Administrative Assistant provides customer service as part of our front desk team. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated individual with excellent people skills and attention to detail. This person must be able to handle multiple tasks concurrently, and be flexible to quickly switch priorities as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support multiple departments
  • Answer phones and schedule appointments
  • Receive and attend to visiting clients
  • Schedule travel for employees
  • Assist and coordinate facility maintenance
  • Work with the vault staff to track incoming and outgoing media

Skills/Experience Required:

  • Proven customer service skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office or Apple iWork applications
  • Comfortable in a Mac environment

Dailies Operator (Los Angeles)

The Dailies Operator is a self-starter with the ability to think on their feet and solve complex problems under pressure. The ideal candidate is able to handle multiple tasks concurrently, and stays up to date on rapidly changing workflows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process client media according to specifications provided by Dailies Producer
  • Transcode, create and apply color, sync sound, back-up, archive, and facilitate uploads
  • Interact and collaborate with Client Editorial and Production Teams
  • Daily internal and external communication of process and footage logs
  • Report/track bugs and crashes of software and hardware
  • Test new software and hardware

Skills/Experience Required:

  • Experience with digital cinema cameras (e.g., ARRI Alexa, RED Dragon, Panasonic VariCam) and their very specific related workflows
  • Experience with transcoding software (e.g., Colorfront, Resolve, RedCine-X, Compressor)
  • Experience with edit platforms (e.g., Avid Media Composer, Apple Final Cut Pro X, Adobe Premiere)
  • Strong knowledge of both Mac and Windows operating systems
  • General computer networking experience
  • Knowledge of production set etiquette and hierarchy

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Knowledge of post production workflows
  • Interest in color correction
  • Experience with LTO archiving
  • Scripting language capabilities (Apple script, Python)

The Dailies Operator is required to travel and work flexible shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays. Extended remote location work out of state/country is expected.

Client Services Representative (Los Angeles)

The Client Services Representative is outgoing, personable, and an energetic self-starter. This position is responsible for receiving clients, food preparation and presentation (baking/cooking), office organization/cleanliness, opening/closing responsibilities, and light facility maintenance. The ideal candidate is interested in bringing new ideas to the Company, and is capable of maintaining exceptional standards in Client Services. Prior experience in the post production industry and/or experience at front desk is a plus. This person should have a great eye for food presentation and an emphasis in warm hospitality. Some local driving is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cultivate and maintain professional relationships with clients
  • Create consistent daily snacks, treats, and specialties for clients
  • Accomplish meal and beverage orders for clients, guests, VIPs and distribute accordingly
  • Tidy up color and finishing suites
  • Ensure the kitchen, lounge, and outdoor areas are client friendly, spotless, and well-stocked
  • Serve as reception relief (as needed), knowledge of basic computer and telephone skills

Skills/Experience Required:

  • One year experience of entry level production environment

Digital Intermediate Producer (New York)

The fundamental role of the Digital Intermediate Producer will be to manage projects, client expectations, work order tracking, schedule artists, and coordinate deliverables through the facility. This position is responsible for meeting internal and external deadlines. The Producer is the company representative for the project and the team leader executing the workflow plan.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project manage and coordinate conform, data I/O, color-correction, home video, digital cinema, HDR mastering, and deliverables.
  • Work closely with the Operations and facility teams to make sure all schedules and work orders are accurate.
  • Track and communicate DI progress and bid/actual reports to client and production company personnel.
  • Effective and direct communication with clients and filmmakers
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while facilitating seamless hand-offs to fellow colleagues.
  • Build and maintain relationships with producers, directors, cinematographers, editors, and other client contacts to help source and close new projects.

Skills/Experience Required:

  • Very strong understanding of latest digital cinema and production practices and techniques.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment and anticipate client needs.
  • Strong writing, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, ambitious, excellent management and multi-tasking skills.

Post Production Systems Administrator I (Los Angeles)

The Post Production System Administrator is an integral Engineering team member who will support IT and Engineering requests from staff and clients at Light Iron LA, and work closely with the Engineering team and Light Iron management to increase efficiency across the organization by optimizing current and building new post production systems, media pipelines, and operational policies and procedures. Applicants should have a minimum 0-2 years of experience in a similar role.

The candidate should possess basic knowledge of feature and episodic workflows, techniques, and tools and understand the challenges and goals of creative and technical teams alike. The System Administrator is a self-motivated individual with a desire to learn and ability to address issues promptly and communicate them to the larger team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deploy and support a range of hardware and software including routing switches, LTO tape libraries, tape decks, video scopes, DCI projectors and cinema servers, OLED monitors, calibration tools, audio systems, video routers and patch bays, SAN, NAS, Avid Nexis and ISIS, firewalls, KVM systems, OSX, Windows, Linux, Film Light OS systems, Resolve systems, Avid, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Creative Suite, Colorfront Transkoder and EXD, DVS Clipster, Aspera Faspex and Signiant Media Shuttle
  • Occasional support for on-set/near-set dailies deployments
  • Rapid response support for all client facing services
  • Research third party products and services to suggest the best tools for the business requirements.
  • Stay up to date with industry standard tools and practices to maintain cutting edge infrastructure

Skills/Experience Required:

  • Experience maintaining post production facilities in a systems administrator and/or engineering capacity
  • Knowledge of industry tools StorNext, Brocade, Super Micro, HP Workstations, Palo Alto Firewall, AWS
  • Knowledge of video and audio file formats and industry standard and studio delivery specifications – particularly UHD and HDR (HDR 10, 10+, and Dolby Vision) workflows
  • Bash/Shell command line interface experience; scripting is a plus
  • Ability to foster strong working relationships with technical contacts at client facilities and studios
  • Ability to manage several projects at once – the organization is lean and individual responsibility is paramount
  • A bias for action and ability to deliver mission critical support in a timely manner
  • Strong writing and verbal skills, particularly in communicating technical processes in a non-technical manner
  • Ability to work independently while being able to contribute successfully to cross-functional teams
  • A strong desire to deliver great looking, technically accurate content to our customers

Technical Director (Los Angeles)

The Technical Director is responsible for overseeing, documenting, and maintaining all technical workflows for image manipulation and management within the Company. The Technical Director will work internally and externally to make sure the most appropriate pipeline is implemented and to make sure image manipulation is performed by following the highest level of professional post production finishing industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Company’s image workflow beginning in dailies through the final deliverable process for each of the Light Iron facilities (LA, NY, ATL, NOLA, CHI, ABQ, and future locations).
  • Work with every major department in the Company, such as Sales, Production, Engineering, Operations, and Finishing Artists as an advocate for true image continuity and quality control in each process.
  • Employee must demonstrate expertise in a variety of concepts, practices, and procedures. Areas of concentration include:
    • Imaging Science
    • File formats including raw camera data
    • Image measurement and SMPTE standards
    • LUT design, building, and verification
    • Documentation and communication of each workflow and tools required for the various steps in the process
  • Create proposals to improve ongoing image quality in all stages of the post production process
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with outside company manufacturers and vendors
  • Research technological innovations to determine potential for implementation; allocate time for off-site training and product demonstrations
  • Participate in planning/creation/exhibition of Company programming, seminars, and webinars
  • Represent the Company at industry events, panels, and presentations
  • Remain on-call after hours for emergency support
  • Document, publish, and communicate workflows and execution process effectively to the internal team, external clients, third party vendors, and partners
  • Act as a good steward of the Company’s resources, planning for short-term and long-term needs

Skills/Experience Required:

  • BS in related field and at least 10 years’ experience in the specific Image control arena
  • Understanding file based technologies for post production finishing services, including various hardware/software platforms (e.g., Colorfront Transkoder, BlackMagic Resolve, Rohde & Schwarz Clipster)
  • Expert knowledge of technological trends to build strategy including HDR and Dolby Vision
  • Ability to actively communicate, inspire and motivate all levels of staff
  • Experience in thinking and acting strategically and proactively in a very fast paced environment
  • Strong technical writing/presentation skills

2D Compositor/Paint Artist (Los Angeles)

The 2D Compositor/Paint Artist will augment the company’s current feature film and episodic finishing divisions by providing in-house visual effects services requested by customers. 2D Compositing and paint responsibilities include, but are not limited to: crew and production equipment and logo removal, monitor compositing, and beauty work. Additionally, the candidate must be proficient with the visual effects pulls process as well as with preparing elements for outsourced visual effects work. The candidate must be a collaborative team player and a motivated self-starter who is willing to take initiative, learn, grow, and develop new/innovative workflow methods.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute client requests using a variety of software tools
  • Evaluate bid time frame and best workflow to accommodate client request
  • Communicate effectively and directly with Production Team
  • Collaborate with Editorial, Color, and Data teams
  • Work with and communicate to clients for revisions and approvals
  • Manage multiple requests with alternating deadlines
  • Maintain project schedule and progress updates

Skills/Experience Required:

  • 2 years minimum experience working in Post Production field with emphasis in VFX
  • Experience working with various resolutions and camera format elements
  • Experience working with sensitive imagery with absolute discretion
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following software packages:
    • Flame
    • After Effects
    • Fusion
    • Mocha
  • Familiarity with the following software packages:
    • Avid
    • Resolve
    • Premiere
