Codex and ARRIRAW Mark a Breakthrough Year in 2011

Pretty interesting statistic from the Codex press release below. They estimate that 50 features used the CODEX system in 2011. Assuming that almost nobody relied on S.Two, that means only 50 features worldwide used the ARRIRAW functionality. The rest captured ProRes @ 1080p.

Codex Digital, the leading developer of digital media recorders and media management systems for film and television production, announced that Codex Onboard Recorders have been used on approximately 50 feature films in 2011.

To put it into perspective, Light Iron alone provided OUTPOST services (non of which were Codex, BTW) on 20 feature films in 2011. And we're only 1 of dozens of post production facilities worldwide.

It just goes to show that the percentage of productions using the full functionality of the ALEXA (i.e., ARRIRAW 3.2K recording) is quite small.
