The 41 Year Old Virgin...

One of the most popular tools in today’s independent film world is the RED One digital cinema camera. For productions to take full advantage of the highest quality the RED One delivers, cut lists must be linked back to the original 4K R3D source files in what can be a time-consuming and costly data conform process. Traditionally required for film print distribution, this full quality conform grants colorists full access to RAW files, which contain much more latitude and much less compression than traditional offline
editorial media.
Since Twentieth Century Fox distribution did not require a 35mm print, The 41 Year Old Virgin... engaged in a compressed digital intermediate workflow that createed log-like LUT filtered, full debayered, low-compression files for offline which would also be used in the final uncompressed digital intermediate. Utilizing the powerful list management tools in Quantel Pablo, compressed Quicktime ProRes 4444 files can be imported and reconformed in real-time without the cost of reconforming from 4K source R3Ds.
The result is a high quality 1080 feature film with the same latitude of the original 4K RAW files. This compressed Digital Intermediate workflow ends up using the exact same files in DI that were created as dailies on set some five months earlier.
