Onsite 3D Post Production

Many productions have experienced the advantages of near-instant evaluation from file-based digital cinema toolsets. But few have experienced the ability to process files with multiple outputs, multiple formats, and multiple lookup tables from a single compact mobile digital laboratory.

Working in conjunction with Kerner Optical and ILM’s 3D VFX team, Light Iron provided and operated its on-site 3D processing system, “OUTPOST 3D,” specifically for over-cranked sequences shot in 3D at 120 frames per second.

With OUTPOST 3D, the Light Iron Team led by DIT Steve Freebairn provided 100% of the image processing on set including:

•Data management
•3D monitoring
•3D conform
•Visual effects pull-list processing
•Data protection
•Color space conversions
•Offline editorial compression transcodes

Completed source backups, DPX files and DNxHD files for both eyes were all created within 2 hours of wrapping.
