This section discusses performance considerations of all of the products we provide. Product performance is important for Customizing products and Luggage & Convenience products as well as those that improve Engine performance and Brakes & Suspension.
Engine
Have you ever wished your bike had more power, but didn’t
really know exactly what to do to achieve that? Getting more
power from your engine involves modifying or replacing several
components with high performance units that work well together.
Intake and Exhaust:
When your engine can “breathe” better, it will
generate more power as it draws in a larger amount of the
fuel & air mixture. A bolt-on high-flow intake helps your
engine “inhale” easier. A free-flowing exhaust
system increases power by reducing restriction and the engine “exhales”
with less effort. This type of exhaust usually has a more
aggressive sound as well. Getting the best performance with
this change often requires “re-jetting” of the
carburetors to keep the proper fuel mixture. Our Jet Kits provide the parts and instructions necessary to tune your carburetor for maximum performance from your new exhaust and intake systems. If your bike has fuel injection, in most cases, it will adjust automatically to high perfornance intake and exhaust modifications.

Camshaft:
A more advanced component replacement would be a high-performance
camshaft. This modification further increases power, enhancing
the high-flow intake and exhaust systems. The valves, which
control the inhale and exhale of the engine are generally
opened farther, remain open longer, or both. This type of
modification requires intermediate mechanical skills.
Piston:
A high-compression piston helps create
more power by compressing the fuel & air charge more greatly,
causing a larger explosion when ignited by the spark. A higher
octane fuel, or premium grade, is most often required when
running high-compression pistons
Suspension &
Brakes
Does your motorcycle handle, ride, and brake as effectively
as you would like it to? There are several areas that can be modified with performance accessories to meet your goals.
Wheels & Brakes:
Lighter wheels improve performance in two ways; 1) they require
less power to turn, and thereby increase acceleration. The
lighter weight also shortens braking distance because there
is less rotational inertia to fight braking efficiency. 2)
lighter wheels react better to bumps and provide better traction
on the road when rough surfaces are encountered.
Better brakes help you stop quicker and
with more control and less effort. Our high performance brake

Suspension:
A smooth and well balanced suspension offers a comfortable
ride while keeping the tires on the road over bumps and other
pavement irregularities. The dampening of the shocks or forks
is controlled by a special hydraulic fluid formulated for
motorcycle applications. It is available in different viscosities
(resistance to flow) similar to motor oils, such as 5W, 10W,
etc. A higher viscosity fluid will increase dampening characteristics
of the suspension.
If you add a significant amount of weight
to your motorcycle by the addition of accessories and loading,
you may choose to increase the spring preload to keep adequate
ground clearance and proper suspension travel for safe riding
and good handling. Spacers or spring pre-load adjusters can
be added to front forks to increase the spring pre-load. It
may be advisable to increase the viscosity of fork oil to
match dampening rate with the higher spring force to maintain
good handling.

Rear suspension can often be adjusted for
heavier loads and ride height to match your new front suspension. Various methods are used to achieve this depending
on your motorcycle’s design. Refer to your owner’s
manual for details on this feature.
